Finished exterior repaint on a Fairhaven home in Bellingham, WA—lap siding, board-and-batten, and stucco with sage green trim.

Fairhaven Stucco Repair & Exterior House Painting

A Fairhaven home above Bellingham Bay where the paint was the last step, not the first. The stucco had cracked through in a web across the upper wall, and window trim had gone soft. We cut out and patched every crack, bridged the wall with an elastomeric coating, rebuilt the damaged trim, then repainted the body and trim across both buildings on the property.

Scope of work: wash the exterior; cut out and patch stucco cracks across the upper wall; apply an elastomeric coating over the repaired stucco to bridge the cracks and shed water; rebuild and prime damaged window trim; caulk joints and penetrations; then two finish coats on the body with hand-brushed trim — on the main house and the street-facing bungalow.

Stucco crack repair, then an elastomeric coat

Cracked stucco is the most common thing we find on older Bellingham homes near the water, and painting over it does nothing — the crack telegraphs straight back through the new coating within a season. On this Fairhaven wall the cracking ran in a web across the whole upper elevation. Every crack got cut out and patched first. Once the patches cured we coated the wall with an elastomeric system, which stays flexible enough to bridge hairline movement instead of splitting over it, and sheds the rain that comes off the bay.

Cracked stucco on your Fairhaven home?

Stucco near the bay takes on water through every crack it has, and a fresh coat of paint alone won’t stop it. We repair first — cut out and patch the cracks, coat the wall, rebuild any trim that has gone soft — and only then paint.
